Hull has been the base for several notable actors, musicians and poets, including former University of Hull Librarian, Philip Larkin, many of whose poems were set in the city. Established tourist attractions include the historic Old Town and Museum Quarter, the Marina and The Deep, a city landmark. The redevelopment of one of Hulls main thoroughfares, Ferensway, included the opening of St. Stephens Hull and the Hull Truck Theatre. Spectator sporting activities include professional football and two rugby league clubs. Excellent standard of living, affordable housing and fantastic local amenities, Hull is both welcoming and unthreatening. The city is a jewel, subtle and delightfully laid-back with a culture of tolerance and acceptance. Hull is divided into 4 main areas, Central, North, West & East. Central Hull being the main mix of shopping, clubs and bars and flats and apartments being fringed with high density low cost housing. The Yorkshire and Humberside region has excellent road links with the rest of the UK. Access to the rest of the country is achieved by the A1 and M1 motorway via the M62 that’s starts in Hull. Sheffield and Leeds are within an hours drive; Manchester is about an hour and 20 minutes away, Birmingham 2 hours away and London approximately 4 hours. Hull also has an international ferry port with regular services to Belgium and Holland. The Humber Bridge effectively doubled the size of Humberside International Airport’s trading catchment area and has prompted considerable investment in new facilities. The airport is located on the South bank of the river and is about 30 minutes drive from the centre of Hull. This is a time of great change in Hull – Hull one of England’s best kept secrets is well and truly open for business and heading towards its goal of being a top 10 UK city. |
